This Sunday, 12th July 2009, will be the Feast of the Apostles, SS Peter and Paul (Happy Name Day Abouna Botros and Abouna Pavlos!)
The traditional rite is to pray the Lakaan, or Service of the Washing of Feet, before the liturgy on this day. This is to remind us of Jesus washing the feet of His Apostles on the evening of the Last Supper, and the lesson of humility and service He taught them, and us, by His actions.
As such, there will be no early liturgy (6-8am) this Sunday.
Instead, the service will begin in both Churches at 7am, and the Lakaan will be conducted in English in St Stephen's Church and in Arabic in the main Church.
This day also marks the end of the Fast of the Apostles, so we can break our fast as soon as we come out of the liturgy.
Nofri Shai!
(Happy Feast)
